It’s very possible to achieve a manicure at home, with a little time and patience you can surprise yourself with what you can do. Here is a step-by-step guide of what to do.
First things first, you need time. Polish takes a while to completely dry. Have you ever polished your nails before bed and woke up with smudged nails? You should give yourself at least a hour to polish your nails.
Start by filing your nails in your desired shape being careful not to file your nails back-and-forth as this will shred your nails. File in the same direction.
Next, use your orange wood stick to push back your cuticles. Once you’ve pushed back the cuticles, take your orange wood stick & spin it into a small piece of cotton to wrap a little around tip of stick and put this to the side. You are going to use it to clean up any polish around the nail.
Use your buffer to smooth out the nail. You want a smooth surface as your foundation. Now use your alcohol to remove any dust or debris from your nail.
When polishing nails at home, complete one hand at a time.
On the first hand apply a thin layer of base coat. Before continuing anything else, allow base coat to dry completely. If you have any polish on the skin or cuticle use the orange wood stick you put to the side earlier and nail polish remover to clean it up.
Continue using the above steps to complete the polishing process. Remember to let it dry completely between each coat of lacquer and to clean up the polish on the skin and cuticle.
Once you apply the topcoat wait about 5 minutes to dry completely.
After 5 minutes of drying, dip your hands in the cup of ice water for about a minute. This helps to solidify polish all the way through, not just on top.
Now you are ready to polish the other hand.
I know this is a lot and time-consuming but it’s a way to get the best look at home.
Remember hot and humid air keeps nail polish tacky. Blowing your breath on your nails will not help them dry at all (We are all guilty of this lol). For best results use a fan or just sit still.
